On April 26, 2024, a significant severe weather event unfolded across the NE/IA region. A major tornado outbreak impacted eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, documented here by Caleb Elliott. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Omaha, this event was characterized by a "highly volatile" environment with extreme instability and wind shear. The Waverly tornado was part of a larger tornadic family produced by a single, long-lived supercell that tracked across Lancaster and Cass Counties.

NWS damage surveys confirmed this was a violent multi-vortex tornado that evolved into a massive wedge. Peak wind speeds were estimated at 158-165 mph (EF3 intensity) as it impacted the Waverly area, causing significant structural damage to industrial buildings and rolling several railcars.

Technical Intercept: This 6K cinematic documentation captures the tornadoes during their most intense and interesting phases.
